Moving To Catalina
No I am not jumping off the mainland and moving to the beautiful island of Catalina. I am talking about the always daunting process of upgrading your Production Macbook Pro’s operating system. We all remember how long it took for Avid to certify Protools on Mojave. This time Apple made the jump to Catalina and in the process killed off support for 32 Bit apps. This doesn’t seem so bad in 2020 except it caught all the audio companies with their pants down. MANY were not ready for this and so the scramble began to move to 64 BIT for everything or just kill off support if you upgrade.
Well I took the jump this week to Catalina after finally getting all of my plugins upgraded to support the transition. If you need resources to help you make the move I’ve found 2 that helped me.
Use the Mac built in System report to check for any 32 Bit plugins or applications.
About this Mac -> System Report —> Software:Applications : Sort them by 64 Bit vs 32 Bit.
You can also use this handy database of plugins and their current support for 64 BIT.
